Earlier this week, a lot of northeastern Wisconsin, including Manitowoc, got a taste of winter weather.
Although the snow will melt away, winter weather will return and Manitowoc County Highway Department Director Greg Grotegut is reminding people to stay off their phones and pay attention on the road when the snow falls again.
He says the department is ready for this year when it comes to trucks getting ready to plow and having enough salt for the roads.
He is also asking drivers when it is snowing and trucks are plowing, to give them plenty of time and leave plenty of room.
“They’re running a lot of the duel wing trucks up on the interstate,” he explained. “Typically, they can only run on wing at a time but they’re big pieces of equipment out there and they can’t always see around in the middle of a snowstorm. If the snow is blowing sideways, they can’t always see their blind spots in those trucks.”
He also tells Seehafer News while the cities will do their own streets, the county works to clear Interstate 43, the County Highways, and the county trunks.
