The pilot of a small aircraft died yesterday (October 26th) following a crash in rural Manitowoc County.
The Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center was contacted by the Chicago Center Air Traffic Control Center just before 10:00 a.m. reporting that a low-wing aircraft had not arrived as it was scheduled to.
The last place the plane was known to be was the Manitowoc County Airport, leading the Sheriff’s Office to begin searching the area.
They were eventually able to locate the plane, which had crashed into a pond in the Township of Kossuth and was submerged in the water.
The pilot was dead in the cockpit, but it is not clear if the crash killed him or if it was a medical emergency.
The Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are collaborating in the investigation.
No further information is being released at this time.
