An Eastern Wisconsin Senator is looking to help those who sign up to be a part of a clinical trial in Wisconsin.
Senator Andre Jacque’s Clinical Trial Coverage Act would require insurance providers to cover out-of-network routine care costs for clinical trial participants if no in-network provider is available.
In a news release, the 1st District senator from De Pere explained that “Current federal law already requires private insurers to cover routine services for clinical trials from in-network providers, but some patients may not have an in-network provider who offers access to a particular trial. For these patients, paying full price for services in clinical trials may be their only option, excluding many from participating in these trials.”
He continued, “The Clinical Trial Coverage Act will ensure many of these patients are finally able to benefit from potentially life-saving clinical trials.”
The Clinical Trial Coverage Act is endorsed by the American Cancer Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The measure is currently being shopped around for co-sponsorships in both the Senate and the Assembly.
