The Wisconsin State Assembly passed legislation yesterday that adds around 54 new assistant district attorney positions in 40 counties statewide. Manitowoc County is among those affected, according to District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre.
The proposal primarily benefits rural counties that are struggling with a shortage of ADAs, public defenders, and judges. LaBre explains how much these two additions would help.
Representative Paul Tittl called the legislation “commonsense”, and said it will help “fight crime in our communities.” These positions will start on July 1st, 2019.
