The Pentagon has officially pressed desertion charges against Travis King, a soldier from Racine, who fled to North Korea.
King’s escape led to approximately two months spent in North Korea after his departure in July.
While the motive for King’s escape remains undisclosed, he had recently been released from a South Korean detention facility and was facing additional disciplinary actions from the U.S. Army.
In addition to the desertion charges, King is also being accused of possessing explicit images of a minor.
If convicted, King could face up to three years in prison for desertion.
