One of the ideas which might make school a safer place is putting locks on the inside of classrooms, instead of the outside. That would let teachers lock the doors to keep an attacker out. The Madison School Board has that idea on a list of steps to improve safety in district schools. Supporters say the interior locks could be added to classrooms by the beginning of next school. District leaders are also talking about instituting a mental health program for students.
