The Republican-dominated Wisconsin legislature is pushing forward with a proposal to ban gender-affirming care for minors in the state, despite Governor Tony Evers’ unequivocal promise to veto the legislation.
The State Senate voted in favor of the bill, which seeks to prohibit sex-change surgeries and hormone therapy for individuals under 18.
Republicans argue that the bill allows young people more time to make life-altering decisions, while Democratic lawmakers contend that it is a cruel and discriminatory measure against the LGBTQ+ community.
Governor Evers has reaffirmed his intent to veto the legislation as soon as it reaches his desk.
