Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu
It was a busy day in the Wisconsin State Senate yesterday (October 17th).
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu tells us that two major actions took place, including the passage of a special session bill on a 21-11 vote.
The Republican from Oostburg tells us that this measure will provide $2 billion in tax relief and address childcare affordability and availability.
In fact, he explained that “An average Wisconsin family with two children in child care will receive a total tax benefit of nearly $6,000.”
Additionally, the Senate took action on 74 of the Governor’s appointments to various boards and councils.
9 appointees failed to earn confirmation and were rejected.
As for why the appointees were rejected, LeMahieu explained, “The Governor’s appointment to the Wisconsin Elections Commission violated the law by refusing to promptly and properly appoint an election administrator. Multiple of the Governor’s appointees to the Natural Resources Board openly indicated they would not comply with the laws of our state if confirmed.”
He also revealed that since 2018, the Senate has confirmed 444 appointees and rejected only 10.
