The following story was written by Sharon Verbeten, the Youth Services Manager at the Manitowoc Public Library.
Monster Mash. Pumpkin Spice. Sweater Weather.
What do these three things have in common?
They all mean it’s fall. And that means, once again, it’s time for things that go bump in the…parking lot?
Once again this year, Manitowoc Public Library will host its annual—much anticipated, very well-attended—Trunk or Treat. It’s a safe, outdoor Trick or Treating event being held Tuesday, October 24, from 5:30-7 PM in the Briess Parking Lot directly across Quay Street from the Library.
Dozens of local organizations will decorate their vehicles, don costumes, and hand out child-friendly goodies to scores of ravenous goblins of all ages. Costumes are optional, but consider this a dry run for the following Tuesday’s city-wide Trick or Treat festivities! Wearing costumes is preferred; family costumes are even more photogenic!

But, be sure to bring your comfy shoes (lots of walking for little feet!) and a big bag (to stash all those treats!). Sunset is predicted for 5:52 PM that night, so there should be an appropriately spooky glow (we ordered that special!).
Ghouls and boys (and grown-ups too), check out this amazing annual event—with this gravely important epitaph—WEATHER PERMITTING! In case of rain, snow, or a squall off the lake (in other words, bad weather), the event will be cancelled. The Library will remain open, but the Trick or Treating will NOT move inside (but, we’d still like to see your costumes).
So, whether you’ve got little ghosts, princesses, or superheroes—there will be a festive atmosphere for all in this spooktacular event! For more information regarding Trunk or Treat 2023, feel free to give us a call at the Library at 920-686-3030.
