Discussions surrounding the allocation of half a billion dollars in taxpayer funds for the renovation of the Brewers’ ballpark are drawing to a close.
The State Assembly is set to cast its vote on the proposal in the upcoming week.
In a recent development, an assembly panel has given the green light to the revised plan, which carries a reduced price tag.
Under this updated agreement, both the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County will contribute a more manageable sum of $67 million each over the span of the next 27 years.
Democratic leaders in the State Capitol have applauded this adjustment, considering it a substantial improvement from the initial proposal, which had demanded a hefty $200 million.
Milwaukee’s leadership had voiced concerns about their ability to bear such a financial burden.
According to the latest version of the plan, taxpayers from across the state will collectively contribute approximately $400 million, while the Brewers themselves will chip in $100 million.
The remaining balance will be covered by Milwaukee and Milwaukee County.
As an incentive, the Brewers have pledged to remain in Milwaukee until 2050 if this funding is secured.
