Charges have been filed against a Manitowoc man who was linked to an overdose death.
Officers responded to an apartment in the 900 block of South 23rd Street on July 20th on a report of an unconscious individual.
The 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a resident of the apartment said that the deceased had possibly been using illicit drugs.
A search of the apartment revealed fentanyl, which was believed to have been used by the deceased.
An autopsy was conducted, but the results were redacted from the police report.
The witness told police that they had gone to bed after seeing the man enter the bathroom and lock the door.
When the witness woke up at around 1:00 a.m., they noticed the door was still closed and the light was on.
This led them to gain entry where they found the man lying on the floor.
They called 911 and attempted life-saving measures but to no avail.
Through interviews with those who knew the man, they narrowed in on a suspect, who was believed to have been his drug dealer.
A search of the victim’s phone records revealed that he had communicated with the suspect just before he was found deceased.
A conversation between the two even revealed that the suspect had warned the victim that people were “falling out”, a slang term for overdosing, on the drugs that he had supplied the victim.
The suspect is now facing charges of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide, and Delivery of Fentanyl, Heroin, and Methamphetamine.
