Wisconsin Rapids Police say the false report of a gunman at Lincoln High School Tuesday was intended to divert the attention of authorities. Lincoln was put on lockdown after police were told a gunman was walking around, inside the building.
About the same time the report of a gunman was made, a shoplifting complaint was made by a nearby business. 4 people were involved. Two of which were detained by the store’s loss prevention and two were waiting in the parking lot, one of which allegedly phoned in the hoax gun complaint to police. This was an attempt to divert police attention away from the shoplifting incident.
School had been canceled due to the weather, so only a skeleton staff was in the building. The woman who made the call is charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct. Her name has not been released.
