Most of the people in the crowd filling the cafeteria at Madison’s La Follette High School Tuesday night were parents concerned about safety. Madison Superintendent Jen Cheatham and La Follette Principal Sean Storch were at the front of the room, responding to sometimes contentious questions. The two educational leaders assured the 150 people attending the two-hour listening session that work is being done to develop quick solutions for recent fighting incidents. A small group of sometimes violent trouble-makers have been causing problems for all students at the high school. A fight last week left two girls with stitches, a teacher with an injured leg and brought on a police response involving nearly 20 officers.
