The Unified School District of De Pere’s Board had to answer some questions last night (September 18th).
The District recently introduced a new flag policy, which would have required the Board to approve any and all flags that were being displayed on school grounds.
This left many confused, as some thought it was an attempt to stifle expression or inclusivity.
During the meeting last night, board members admitted that the wording of the policy wasn’t quite perfect and voted to approve a variation of the policy.
This new version breaks the policy into two sections, what can be flown outside the buildings and what can be displayed in a classroom.
U.S. flags along with City/Town, state, school district, and POW/MIA flags can all be flown outside, but the wording of the second part is being discussed.
That will be voted on at a future board meeting.
