Wisconsin has secured a substantial federal grant of over a billion dollars dedicated to tree planting initiatives in two specific regions.
The U.S. Forest Service has allocated these grants with the aim of expanding the tree canopy, a vital natural resource that purifies the air and mitigates heat during the summer months.
The City of Milwaukee is set to receive a significant portion of these funds, totaling $12 million, designated for the planting and maintenance of trees within economically disadvantaged communities.
Meanwhile, Dane County will receive $1.5 million from the grant, with an additional provision for establishing a youth tree crew, fostering environmental education and community engagement.
