In response to a devastating incident over the weekend, the Portage Community School District has taken measures to provide therapeutic support to both its students and staff members.
This decision comes in the wake of a fatal accident involving a 17-year-old female student.
According to the county sheriff’s office, the young girl lost her life in a harrowing crash that occurred near Newport when the car she was driving struck a tree and subsequently overturned.
Preliminary investigations indicate that excessive speed played a role in the tragic Saturday night accident.
The identity of the student remains undisclosed at this time.
