
An Appleton man was apprehended last week after he attacked a building with the butt of a rifle.
According to the Appleton Police Department, officers were called after witnesses reported seeing the unnamed individual hit the window of a downtown restaurant with such force the wooden butt of the rifle broke in half.
After discarding the rifle, the man fled in a vehicle and eluded police by driving in the wrong lane of traffic on College Avenue.
It was at this time the APD was informed that the man had pointed the rifle at people in a neighboring jurisdiction earlier in the day.
The man was later located, and another chase ensued.
The suspect led police into Shawano County, where he was finally apprehended without further incident.
The suspect was confined at the Outagamie County Jail on numerous criminal charges.
The Appleton Police Department issued a statement on the incident, saying it “serves to illustrate the real-time calculations made by our officers based on the information available, continuously monitoring public safety concerns and officer accountability. Today we give a shout out to all the officers who worked together during a rapidly evolving situation to safely remove a dangerous individual from our streets.”
