The group that has organized the cleaning of Civil War gravesites in Manitowoc’s Evergreen Cemetery over the past two years has a loft goal this time around.
The Civil War Gravesite Restoration Project began in 2021 and is the brainchild of Dan Reinke.
Between two outings, Dan and numerous volunteers were able to clean an estimated 125 gravesites, but this year the goal is much loftier.
There are 100 gravesites left along with 50 Civil War monuments, and Renkie is calling on area residents to show up in force at 9:00 a.m. on September 23rd to take care of these final sites.
Even if they are all taken care of, the project will continue into the future, as some of the first sites cleaned need attention yet again.
Any volunteers under the age of 18 will need to fill out a liability form with parental or guardian signatures at the event or in advance by going to Manitowoc.org/EvergreenCemetary.
Any questions can be emailed to Reinke at SaveTheVeteransDan@Outlook.com.
