A fire last night in a Sheboygan apartment is still being investigated.
Fire crews were called to the apartment in the 1400 block of Union Avenue just before 5:30 p.m.
When they arrived at the apartment, which was above a business, they found the flames coming from the rear porch and roof area near the attic.
All occupants of the business and residence were safely outside, so crews were able to extinguish the flames within about 15 minutes.
The lone occupant of the apartment told the Sheboygan Fire Department that they were sleeping when the fire started but were awoken by their smoke alarms.
That person has been displaced due to the fire, which caused an estimated $35,000 in damage.
The cause remains under investigation.
