A former Appleton police officer is facing charges after he allegedly forged a court order.
Sargent Jeremy Haney was reportedly working a drug case with the Lake Winnebago MEG Unit when he forged a warrant to install a GPS tracker on a suspected drug dealer.
While a version of that warrant was signed legally, a review of the document showed that Sgt. Hanely had changed the amount of time the device could be on the vehicle from 45 days to 90 days and forged a signature.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate the incident and charged Hanley with Forgery, Misconduct in Office, and Obstructing an Officer.
Hanley resigned on July 17th and is due in court for his initial appearance on September 19th.
