The University of Wisconsin is currently in the process of seeking a partial refund of its diversity, equity, and inclusion funds.
During a session held by the UW Regents yesterday, it was disclosed that the university is awaiting a detailed proposal outlining the utilization of fifty percent of the funds, which had been withheld by lawmakers.
The allocation is intended for bolstering engineering, nursing, and data science programs.
Initially, the Republican-led legislative body aimed to eliminate all diversity, equity, and inclusion positions within the university.
Eventually, a decision was reached to withhold the allocated $32 million dollars intended for DEI initiatives.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos commented yesterday, indicating his preference for the reduction of UW’s DEI efforts before considering further financial allocation to the institution.
