“Stay hydrated with MPU water all day long. That’ll definitely help prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke.”
That is the suggestion of Jennie Nelson, the Communications Manager for Manitowoc Public Utilities, this morning in one of the ways to beat the heat on a day when the lakeshore is predicted to reach 95 degrees, marking the hottest day of the summer.
Air conditioners will be going full bore today, but, Nelson suggests besides using that AC turn on those indoor fans too.
“Those are really useful but when you’re not in the room, make sure you turn ‘em off because fans are meant to cool people and not rooms,” she explained. “When you’re not in there capture the energy savings by turning them off.”
Another energy-saving tip, she says, is before you leave the house is to shut your blinds.
“That’s one of the easiest and probably most overlooked ways to reduce your air conditioning use,” Nelson told Seehafer News. “It keeps the sun out so the room stays cooler, therefore your air conditioner has to run less.”
And, then when you get home tonight don’t heat up your home with appliances.
Consider using an outdoor grill instead of your oven or your stove.
Nelson added MPU is prepared for a peak demand day with this hot weather.
The good news is tomorrow’s forecast for Manitowoc County promises cooler temperatures.
