The Milwaukee area along with the WOW counties is bracing for potentially record-breaking temperatures.
The entire southeastern Wisconsin region is currently placed under an Excessive Heat Warning, starting from 10:00 this morning and extending until 9:00 tonight.
Following this, the National Weather Service has indicated that an Excessive Heat Watch will persist through tomorrow evening.
Weather experts are forecasting the mercury to climb towards the 100-degree mark in certain locations, but due to the combination of heat and high humidity, it’s expected to feel more like 110 degrees.
Authorities from the Weather Service are strongly advising against outdoor activities today due to the extreme conditions.
For those who must be outdoors, meteorologists recommend frequent breaks and ample hydration to stay safe.
Looking ahead, relief is in sight as the weekend approaches, bringing cooler temperatures expected to settle in the 70s.
On a related note, Milwaukee Public Schools have taken the step to close today due to the dangerous heat levels.
While some schools in the city operate on an early schedule, they are not doing so today.
Milwaukee Public School officials are currently evaluating whether it will be necessary to keep schools closed tomorrow as well, considering the ongoing excessive heat conditions.
