Charges are looming for a mother in Racine following the discovery by police of her five children undernourished in a basement.
Dashja Turner now faces allegations of neglect, as five counts were officially filed against her by prosecutors yesterday.
Turner’s arrest took place late last month, prompted by the findings of both law enforcement and child welfare investigators.
The children, spanning ages from 14 months to 14 years, were uncovered living in an incomplete basement devoid of sustenance, proper sanitation, or evident caregiving.
Despite Turner’s assertion that the situation wasn’t as dire, police paint a different picture.
All five children were found to be malnourished, and one displayed signs of physical abuse.
In response to the circumstances, the presiding judge ordered Turner’s detainment on a $1 million bond.
As legal proceedings progress, the children have been placed under state custody, ensuring their well-being.
