The U.S. serviceman hailing from Racine, who is said to have crossed the North Korean border, is not being designated as a prisoner of war (POW).
The Pentagon confirmed its decision yesterday, clarifying that Private Travis King will not be categorized as a POW.
The determination reportedly takes into account the fact that King’s action of crossing the border was voluntary, and he was attired in civilian clothing at the time.
King’s family has conveyed that he made the border crossing last month and has not been in contact since.
According to findings from Army investigators, King had recently been released from confinement in a South Korean jail, mere days prior to the incident, and was slated for repatriation to the United States.
