A lawsuit challenging Milwaukee’s get-out-the-vote initiative has been dismissed by Judge Hannah Dugan of Milwaukee County.
The ruling came yesterday (July 31st), stating that there was no substantial evidence of undue influence on any political campaign by the voting initiative.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson had shown strong support for Milwaukee Votes 2022, despite it being managed by an external organization focused on promoting and reelecting Democrats.
The lawsuit, filed by Wisconsin Republicans, contended that the city’s backing of the initiative favored a single political party’s mobilization, a claim that Judge Dugan found insufficient to warrant further action.
This is not the first time such legal action has been brought against the get-out-the-vote effort.
Last October, a similar lawsuit against the same initiative was also dismissed.
