Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services recently disclosed that the state’s first Medicaid re-enrollment in three years encountered significant challenges, with a considerable number of individuals failing to maintain their health insurance coverage.
According to the latest data, only 30% of those required to re-apply for health insurance through the state were successful in retaining their coverage during the initial phase this year.
Nearly 40% of individuals who attempted to re-apply were met with rejection.
Others either refrained from applying altogether or are currently undergoing processing, leaving their coverage status uncertain.
The conclusion of the coronavirus emergency orders has brought about a crucial requirement for Medicaid beneficiaries in Wisconsin to re-apply for coverage.
This change also means that some individuals will lose their coverage due to less generous income guidelines now in effect.
During the height of the coronavirus emergency, Medicaid enrollment in Wisconsin surged, with approximately 25% of the state’s population, which amounts to over 1.5 million people, being enrolled in the program.
