A dramatic pursuit involving an escaped fugitive from Illinois came to an end with the timely assistance of General Motors’ OnStar technology.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office successfully stopped the fleeing suspect who had carjacked a Camaro after breaking free from police custody in Lake County, Illinois.
The incident unfolded on Saturday along Interstate 94 when the fugitive managed to steal a van before resorting to the carjacking of the Camaro.
Determined to evade capture, he sped into Wisconsin, endangering himself and others on the road.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Kenosha County deputies quickly made the decision to call upon OnStar for assistance.
With their intervention, the stolen Camaro was remotely disabled, swiftly bringing the high-speed pursuit to a halt.
Following the successful immobilization of the vehicle, law enforcement promptly apprehended the suspect.
He was subsequently taken into custody and will be returned to Illinois, where he will face additional charges related to his daring escape and criminal acts.
