The Wisconsin Assembly is expected to vote on legislation changing police and fire policies this week. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has already said the bill is an all-out assault on the state’s biggest city. It would reverse a 2007 law and require cities to continue the pay for police officers facing criminal charges until the case is resolved. Barrett says the city’s limited resources should be used for men and women serving the community, not others who he says are trying to “milk the clock” and get paid — even though they know they are going to be convicted of a crime.
