Their offense may have sputtered, but the Manitowoc County Mariners’ defense came up big in a 10-6 win over the Brown County Blackjacks.
Coach Marcos Alfaro tells us that Linebacker Dylan Hood was all over the field, recording 6 tackles and three assists, while Defensive Back Ethan Limon took down two interceptions at Rubick Field Saturday night.
The offense wasn’t all bad, as Lincoln graduate Malcome Young rushed for 70 yards on 14 carries, part of a 172 yard rushing attack for the Mariners.
The only touchdown for the home team came on a 37-yard pass from Marcos Alfaro II to Austin Isley.
The win, coupled with a forfeit for next week’s game by the Kenosha Cougars, secured the Mariners sole possession of the North Division crown.
Their next game will be a home playoff game on Saturday, August 5th.
Details will be sorted out after this weekend’s final week of play throughout the Northern Lights League.
