Two local state legislators have teamed up to help those with green thumbs.
The Wisconsin Vegetable Garden Protection Act was recently introduced by Senator Andre Jacque and Representative Shae Sortwell.
The duo explained in a news release that the bill would prohibit “a political subdivision from requiring a permit for or prohibiting the cultivation of a vegetable or flower garden on residential property not owned by the political subdivision.”
They also noted that the stress on global supply chains has made getting food affordably a challenge for many, saying this measure will “protect the right of Wisconsin homeowners to grow their own food on their own property.”
The measure is now being shopped around to other legislators as Sen. Jacque and Rep. Sortwell look to garner more support.
