A local inline speed skater has earned his second medal at the national meet.
12-year-old Braylon Jensen earned a bronze medal in the Elementary Boys 300m Sprint event at the 2023 U.S. National Speed Skating Championships, giving him two total medals so far.
His teammates also competed yesterday, with Zakia Kalista finishing 6th in the 500m final and Owen Garcia earning 4th place finishes in the 500m and 1500m heats but failing to advance to the finals in those events.
Coach Carley Valdez tells us that both Zakia and Braylon qualified to move onto their long-distance semifinals today, the placement of which will determine Braylon’s overall standing.
Additionally, Coach Valdez’s team was a part of the region that won the Spirt Award on Spirit Night for showing the best spirit.
Valdez tells us she “couldn’t be more proud of my skaters” and that she is very much looking forward to today’s events.
