Citing increases in expenses and operational costs, Manitowoc Public Utilities has filed applications with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to increase both customer electric and water rates.
According to a news release from MPU, the average residential customer using 600-kilowatt hours of electricity per month would see a monthly increase of about $3.78, or nearly 6.5%.
And, if approved, the new rates will be $65.70 or 34% less per month than the surrounding investor-owned utility (Wisconsin Public Service Corporation) for an average residential customer.
MPU’s water rate increase request, the first since 2011, would result in a hike of around $4.50 per month to $21.42 including the public fire protection charge for customers using 4,000 gallons of water every month.
Telephone public hearings on the local rate requests are scheduled for Friday, July 28th at 10:00 a.m. for the electric rate increase and Wednesday, August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. for the water rate proposal.
Members of the public may attend in person at MPU’s office, participate via the internet or telephone or listen to the live broadcast on the Public Service Commission website.
