The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers used a massive 3rd inning to cruise past the Quad Cities River Bandits 11-4 last night.
The game was scoreless through the first two frames, when the Rattlers used small ball to single home several runners and took advantage of an error by the Bandits to take an 8-0 lead.
Quad Cities would respond with 4 runs of their own in the 3rd, but the Rattlers’ bullpen would shut down the offense after that.
Nick Merkel would get the win, allowing one hit through three and a third innings, while Sam Gardner would allow two hits over the final three frames to secure his first save of the season.
Game two of the five-game set at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport Iowa is scheduled for 6:30 tonight as Stivin Cruz battles Mason Bennet on the mound.
