After months of discussions and changes, the state budget has made a major step forward.
The document which will dictate state spending through 2025 passed the senate yesterday (June 28th), much to the approval of two of our area’s representatives in Madison.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg says that the budget “invests in core priorities and returns a record amount of money back to the taxpayers.”
He also noted that “Under this plan, Wisconsinites will see lower taxes, better local services – like police, fire and EMS – and stronger schools.”
De Pere Senator Andre Jacque admitted that “No budget is perfect,” but said he was pleased to approve it, saying it will invest in “Wisconsin’s workforce, public safety, water, roads and infrastructure.”
Sen. Jacque also pointed to the expansion of youth workforce and education opportunities, saying “These students are more likely to stay in Wisconsin due to the relationship they have built with an employer.”
The budget must now clear the Assembly before it heads to Governor Tony Evers’ desk.
