Hello from Manitowoc Public Library’s Teen Department—it’s me, I’m the Teen Department—and welcome to summer! We’ve got your summer covered with programs and events at the Library, everything from art to yoga.
June ends with the first Teen Yoga program of the summer on the 30th. Wear something comfortable and bring a mat or a beach towel to learn some poses with Kate Casey. Because it’s good to stretch your body, as well as your mind.
We’re making the most of the summer sun by building Pizza Box Solar Ovens on July 7 to cook-up some S’mores. S’more fixins will also be provided to take home. Registration is required, so get your name attached to a s’more by clicking https://www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/teen-pizza-box-smores. Science plus deliciousness—what more do you want?
On July 12, be sure to check out the Sand Sculptures on the Library Lawn, being created while Touch the Trucks is taking place in the parking lot across from the Library on Quay Street. It’s a little preview of the Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Festival that’s happening at Red Arrow Park Beach on the 14th.
Speaking of July 14, get yourself to the Library that day for a D&D Adventure! Andrew Dunbar will be guiding our Dungeons & Dragons quests. Only the brave of heart will prevail! Assemble your fellowship by registering online at https://www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/teen-dd-adventure-0 starting at 5 PM on June 30.

We’ll be reaching for the stars on July 19, building rockets with Jim Lenz. That’s a Wednesday, not the usual Friday we typically use for Teen programming. So, mark your calendars for 5 PM on July 5, because that’s when registration for this one blasts off at https://www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/teen-dd-adventure-0.
If fairytales are more your style, drop in for “Movie Night at the Library” on July 20 at 5 PM to see everyone’s favorite tale of true love, heroic adventure, and a really nice mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich—The Princess Bride. Gasp at the Rodents of Unusual Size! Thrill at the Cliffs of Insanity! Have fun storming the castle!
Fluid art will be happening at the Rahr-West Art Museum on July 28, so go with the flow of Teen Bottle Bottom Pour Painting. Be sure to dress for some mess as paint could end up anywhere! Registration for this opens at 5 PM on July 14 at https://www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/teen-bottle-bottom-pour-painting-rahr-west.
So, that’s just a little of what’s happening in July at MPL.
But, wait—There’s More! You can pick up some extra reading material, CDs or DVDs for incredibly low prices at the Friends of Manitowoc Public Library Used Book Sale—Thursday, July 13 through Saturday, July 15—if your shelves look a little thin. The Summer Reading Program is in full swing, with prizes flying out the door. Want to meet some alpacas? Get up close with some crazy trucks and machinery? Learn to use a 3D doodler pen? We’ve got you covered. Check out the MPL website (www.manitowoclibrary.org/events) for more information and full registration details.
And then we get to August. Ice cream for everyone!
