It’s day two of practice rounds at Sentry World Golf Course in Steven’s Point ahead of the official tee-off of the U.S. Senior Open tomorrow (June 29th).
Yesterday we took a close look at two of the most iconic holes on the course, but today we will honor those who make the event possible, the volunteers.
Steve Marino, one of the event organizers tells Seehafer News that they have an estimated 2,300 volunteers registered to help out.
“That alone is a major feat,” he said. “It’s a large testament to the community support here in Central Wisconsin.”
As you may guess, getting that many people to sign up to help is no easy feat.
In fact, Marino tells us they began recruiting in September of 2021.
“We had an internal goal of 2,000 volunteers,” he explained. “We ended up shutting down volunteer registration back in September of 2022 at just over 2,300 volunteers because there was so much overwhelming support from the community.”
Marino also noted that there are 6 full-time staff, including himself, that are stationed at Sentry World, and six to eight more that are part of their travel staff, who will all make sure the national championship goes off without a hitch.
100 or so USGA officials and an estimated 250 third-party vendors will also be on hand all weekend long.
Those who wish to attend the U.S. Senior Open in Steven’s Point can get tickets ahead of time at either USSeniorOpen.com, or SentryWorld.com, but they will also be available at the gate.
