Police in Oshkosh are alerting the public to a scam that serves as a scam alert.
The con begins with a warning that appears to be legitimate that a person may have been duped online or at their bank.
The scammers get people’s phone numbers when they are instructed to call a number by the fake warning.
According to Oshkosh Police, con artists even caution people against sharing their personal or financial information, but this is all a ruse.
The biggest cautionary sign, according to investigators, is any demand for payment, especially in the form of money orders or gift cards.
The police advise that your best course of action is to disregard any scam warnings and avoid clicking any links.
