
The Appleton man who fired a gun while on top of a church has been sentenced.
James Cooper was ordered to spend 15 years and six months in prison after being found guilty due to no-contest pleas on charges of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety with Use of a Dangerous Weapon and Discharging a Firearm in a School Zone.
Additional Charges of Possession of a Firearm as a Felon, Disorderly Conduct, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping were dismissed but read into the record.
Cooper was arrested on May 13th, 2022 when police responded to St. Bernadette’s Parish on a report of a man pointing a gun at himself and others.
Cooper was said to be having a mental health crisis, and during a three-hour stand-off with police, fired rounds into the air while on top of the church.
