JBS Foods in Green Bay has been deemed at fault for an incident from December of last year where an employee lost a finger.
The unnamed employee was removing a shackle from a cow that was moving down a trolly line when his right index and middle fingers were crushed, resulting in their amputation.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), was called in to conduct an investigation, and they determined that JBS failed to ensure that there were adequate “guards to protect employees from machines in operation.”
The company has received a total of 10 citations for the incident, with four listed as serious, and is facing over $227,000 in fines.
