One of Madison’s Democratic lawmakers voted with Republicans to pass Wisconsin’s new shared revenue plan.
Six Senate Democrats, including Melissa Agard, voted with Republicans to pass the legislation that will eventually distribute $500 million in state tax revenue to local governments all over the state.
Agard had some doubts about the plan earlier in the day, but she ultimately defied her party to send Governor Evers the comprehensive package for his approval.
In both the Senate and the Assembly, a number of Republicans cast their votes against the proposal.
They objected to the plan’s provision allowing Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to increase taxes without first consulting the public.
