Over the weekend, Marathon County received a large number of 911 calls, many of which were erroneous.
According to the sheriff of Wausau, 113 erroneous 911 calls were made on Saturday.
According to the sheriff’s office, many of those calls can be attributed to phones that, upon an excessive number of power-on presses or screen swipes, dial 911.
Sheriff’s offices all over the state report experiencing comparable unintentional calls, but not 113 in a single day.
The sheriff advises changing your phone’s emergency settings to prevent unintentionally dialing 911.
