Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu
The leading Republican in the Wisconsin Senate is prepared to implement his own shared revenue scheme.
Devin LeMahieu, the majority leader in the Senate, announced yesterday that the Senate will convene hearings the next week to discuss amendments to the strategy that state legislators approved on Wednesday.
The largest adjustment will probably be the removal of the demand for voter approval of a new sales tax hike in Milwaukee and Milwaukee County.
LeMahieu, who resides in Oostburg, laments the “line in the sand” that Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has established over the agreement.
Vos announced on Wednesday that the negotiations for the proposal, which would give local governments throughout the state an additional $500 million, were complete.
