An estimated 150 students from across northeast and north central Wisconsin are at the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh today for the 27th Annual Solar Olympics Competition.
Among the schools participating are Mishicot and Valders High Schools.
Each year, Wisconsin Public Service holds the event to give high school students a fun, hands-on opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of an important source of clean energy.
Participants put science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) skills to the test, creating devices powered by the sun or items inspired by solar energy across 13 different events.
In true Olympic fashion, the top finishers in each event will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The top three medal-winning teams also will be recognized at the end of the competition.
