This week, Wisconsin’s state legislators might be prepared to make some changes to the new state budget.
The Joint Finance Committee, which drafts the state budget, will meet tomorrow to discuss the expenditures associated with the state’s court system.
It also covers the spending for public defenders and prosecutors.
In Wisconsin, prosecutors and defense attorneys agree that greater funding is necessary to adequately handle the accumulating backlog of cases.
Due to lawyers’ ability to earn more money abroad, the D.A. offices in several Wisconsin communities have decreased, and defense lawyers claim that Wisconsin may be facing a constitutional crisis as a result.
The governor’s proposed budget was the main topic of discussion at the JFC meeting earlier this month.
A new budget is due to Governor Evers by the end of next month.
