The Sheboygan Fire Department has added a new tool to its arsenal to help those suffering from a heart attack.
The devices are known as the Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System, or LUCAS, and they take over the role of performing chest compressions during a heart attack.
Ask anyone who has had to do chest compressions in a real-life situation, and they will tell you it is much more strenuous than one may think.
These devices will do the job perfectly every time, allowing first responders to address other issues in the moment.
The five LUCAS devices were purchased thanks to an $87,000 Assistance to Firefighters grant from FEMA, and the Sheboygan Fire Department says they have used them three times with amazing results.
