The vote was incredibly close but Norby topped Clash by a beak as the top vote-getter in this year’s peregrine falcon naming contest put on by Wisconsin Public Service.
Norby received 24.7% compared to Clash, which received 23.7% of the vote.
The name Norby is in honor of the mascot of St. Norbert College, while Clash in in reference to the mascot of UW Oshkosh.
The names rounding out the top 10 names, each of which honor a different Wisconsin college, are Ollie (Waukesha County Technical College), Ember (Carthage College) Stryker (UW La Crosse) Bucky (UW Madison), Pete (Carroll University), Roscoe (Milwaukee School of Engineering), Phlash (UW Green Bay), and Iggy (Marquette).
Over 6,500 votes were cast. These names will be given to the peregrine falcon chicks at WPS and We Energies power plants this spring.
