A 24-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly was driving under the influence and caused a crash Monday evening.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at the intersection of North 18th Street and Michigan Avenue just before 7:00 p.m.
An off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy called in the crash which involved two vehicles.
The responding on-duty police officer spoke with the driver of one of the vehicles, who admitted to consuming two Bloody Marys prior to getting behind the wheel.
The officer noted a strong smell of intoxicants on the suspect’s breath as well.
The man changed his story a couple of times, and he failed a field sobriety test.
He was taken to a local hospital for an evidentiary blood draw, where he became resistant to officers, and was berating the officers, even threatening to sue them.
While at the hospital, the officers learned that the other individual involved in the crash was being treated for what were termed “substantial injuries”, however, their status is known at this time.
The suspect was charged with Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle Causing Injury, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting an Officer.
