A citizen sprung into action over the weekend to thwart a theft attempt at the Manitowoc Fleet Farm.
Officers were called to the store on South Rapids Road at around 10:45 a.m. Sunday on a report of a possible retail theft.
When they arrived, the officers noticed a man holding another man on the ground, who was then identified as the suspect.
A search of the man uncovered a folding knife and a device known to be used to remove anti-theft devices from merchandise.
The man refused to speak with authorities but requested he be checked out by medical personnel.
The man who was holding the suspect down told police that he saw the suspect walking toward the exit with an object in a cart when the alarms went off, and noticed the anti-theft device still on the box.
The citizen confronted the man at his vehicle and took him to the ground
A review of security footage revealed that the suspect had taken a fish finder off the shelf, put it in his cart, and left the building without attempting to pay.
The 40-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of Felony Retail Theft, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
