Milwaukee firefighters must now abide by new guidelines when searching for bodies.
Aaron Lipski, the city’s fire chief, unveiled new guidelines Thursday after firemen failed to find three bodies in different incidents during the previous two years.
One of the new regulations applies to “hoarder dwellings,” which are overstuffed with possessions.
Those, according to Lipski, are especially risky for firefighters because crews could easily become trapped.
Firefighters will now talk to nearby residents and check the property records to determine if anyone is inside.
Firefighters will perform a thorough inspection of burned-out vehicles to ensure there are no bodies inside, according to the chief.
It will take a different firefighter to handle each check.
